Xiaomi recalls more than 10,000 electric scooters due to safety concerns

Xiaomi has issued a recall notice on its website. The company will accept returns of its M365 electric scooter for repairs because “a screw in the folding apparatus has the potential to come loose” during operation.

In all, 10,257 units will be affected, of which 7,849 were sold to consumers in the United Kingdom, with the rest distributed in other European countries like Germany, Spain, and Denmark, as well as Asian countries including Singapore and Thailand.

The UK recall will start on June 26, while consumers in other regions can return their scooters beginning July 1.

Electric scooters are part of Xiaomi’s Internet-of-Things products that are meant to help the brand expand beyond its smartphone business.

Xiaomi said in its first quarter financial report that “our ecosystem products, such as Mi Band, Mi Air Purifier and Mi Electric Scooter, continued to enjoy wide popularity and achieved robust sales growth.” But the company did not provide details on sales of scooters.
