Technical assessment and hiring platform ShowMeBug bags USD 15 million Series A from Sequoia Capital and Hillhouse Capital

In the first week of July, ShowMeBug raised RMB 100 million (USD 15.45 million) in a Series A financing round led by Sequoia Capital and Hillhouse Capital. Founded in 2019, ShowMeBug provides a technical skill assessment platform and talent evaluation system to help companies recruit IT talent at lower costs.

Despite around 1 million computer science students graduating from Chinese universities in 2020, high-quality programming talents are scarce in China. The process of vetting applicants can be time-consuming, and it is difficult for tech companies to efficiently screen and recruit IT talent. According to ShowMeBug, a large company with more than 5,000 employees has to conduct between 10,000 and 20,000 interviews and written tests per year. In total, recruiting a single computer programmer often costs more than RMB 100,000 (USD 23,900).

After HR professionals register on ShowMeBug’s official website, they can select interview questions from a database to quickly devise a skills test before the interview. Then, through the invitation link sent by the HR staff or interviewer, candidates can complete the test or the interview after verifying their real-name and mobile phone number.

ShowMeBug will analyze and process the results of the candidate’s test for the interviewer’s reference, while the entire interview session can be recorded and replayed. The company can support more than 100,000 simultaneous online interviews, and administer assessments in more than 30 programming languages. ShowMeBug has served nearly 10,000 client companies and has facilitated hundreds of thousands of interviews, according to founder Li Yafei.
