Indonesia’s Go-Jek launches mobile voucher marketplace Go-Deals

Indonesian on-demand service firm Go-Jek has launched a mobile voucher platform Go-Deals with an aim to propel it to become the biggest deal marketplace in the country in the next six months, said Michael Perera, President of Go-Deals on Thursday.

Go-Deals is one of the latest vertical services sprang out of Go-Jek’s on-demand services platform that provides a wide array of services ranging from ride-hailing, mobile payment, food and groceries delivery to even in-vehicle adverts.

Targeting people between ages 18 to 35, Perera said that Go-Deals will offer exclusive offers that cannot be found elsewhere. The firm will do this by partnering a large network of merchants, a strategy that is expected to help set the platform apart from other discount sites.

According to Kompas (in Indonesian), the platform will offer more than 1,000 discount vouchers that can be used at 800 retailers, most of whom are existing partners of Go-Jek, ranging from food to health to beauty.

According to its website, these merchants include e-commerce company Shopee, restaurant Sushi Tei, and budget hotel operator Reddoorz. Users can purchase these vouchers and use them over the Internet or in person, depending on the deal itself. They can pay for these vouchers using their Go-Pay e-wallet, or redeem Go-Points that come with Go-Jek transactions.

Go-Jek has been working hard on spreading its tentacles across verticals. While it started as a ride-hailing company, it has since evolved into a ‘super app’ providing services from finding a masseuse to paying for goods and services. It has also started to explore content, advertising, and venture capital. There is a natural synergy between the different services it has expanded into as it aims to create more use cases for people to become more reliant on it as a brand.

In Singapore, where Go-Jek is planning to enter soon, its biggest rival Grab has teamed up with discounts platform Fave, which also has a presence in Indonesia, to boost GrabPay and GrabFood in the city-state and in Malaysia.
