Easyship raises $4m Series A to expand shipping network and supply chain

Easyship, a Hongkong-based shipping SaaS startup, announced a US$4 million Series A funding round. The new capital will be used to further invest in its shipping network and product enhancement and solidify its position on the market.

The company claims in a press statement it’s the world’s No.1 global cloud-based shipping software provider, which partners with more than 40,000 companies worldwide.

The recent round was led by a mix of individual investors like Maximilian Bittner, ex-CEO & Founder of Lazada and Senior Advisor at Alibaba Group, and Richard Lepeu, ex-CEO of Richemont and board member of Yoox Net-A-Porter Group, in addition to venture funds including Rubicon Venture Capital, One Way Ventures, Kima Ventures, and Picus Capital.

Easyship aims to simplify the shipping process for e-commerce business.

Previously, companies such as e-commercers have to go through a tediously long process to sign contracts with each shipping company, trying to negotiate the best shipping rates one by one in addition to dealing with other chores.

That’s where Easyship comes to rescue with a centralized and more streamlined solution.

The strength of this platform lies in its algorithm that automatically selects the best ship solution for each order, based on destination, product type, and dimension. Besides, Easyship also provides real-time tax & duties, and rates at checkout.

By using Easyship, sellers get to reduce their shipping cost and time, therefore have more time to focus on growing their businesses. The company claimed that their service will help clients to increase their international sales by 55%, cut shipping cost up to 60%, and increase merchant customer satisfaction by 43%.

Easyship was founded in 2015 by former Lazada executives Tommaso Tamburnotti and Augustin Ceyrac, as well as former banker Paul Lugagne Delpon.

Back when they were still working at Lazada, Tamburnotti and Ceyrac realized that unstructured logistic industry caused much time loss as sellers have to spend nearly half of their time to pack items, selecting couriers, and monitoring the shipping procedures. Being aware of this complication, they then came up with a solution to eliminate those obstacles by creating a reliable online platform to handle the entire shipping process.

“We saw there was an opportunity when we couldn’t find a solution that was a gateway for international shipping,” said Ceyrac. “For example, it’s easy for sellers to find payment gateways that can be activated in minutes so they can start accepting all major forms of payment. Yet, there was no equivalent tool for logistics, where you could just mobilize on global sales. This is what inspired us to create Easyship.”

Maximilian Bittner also agrees that accountable shipping platform is crucial for business’ growth, “Today’s global shipping market is one of the most complex pain points of any business. Easyship has positioned itself as a market leader for making global shipping as accessible as domestic and enabling merchants for cross-border growth,” Bittner said in a press statement.

To date, Easyship has collaborated with a number of big companies including Amazon, BigCommerce, Magento, Shopify Plus, Shopify, eBay, Tradegecko, Sellbrite, Etsy, and so forth.
