Ctrip integrates ride-hailing service on Baidu Map to expand globally

China’s largest online travel agency Ctrip has integrated its overseas ride-hailing services on the Baidu Map for further global expansion, 36Kr reported Friday.

The move will allow users to hail a private ride directly when using the Baidu Map, China’s answer to Google Maps, which covers about 886 cities worldwide.

Ctrip previously announced in July the integration of 10 international ride-hailing companies into its own app, to offer services such as private ride-booking or chartered van-renting in 785 cities across the world.

The Ctrip app offers its ride-hailing services through the collaboration with firms such as Lyft in the United States, Cabify in Portugual, Spain, Mexico and South America, and Careem, which operates in West Asia and North Africa.

Ctrip told 36Kr that its ride-hailing orders overseas increased by 385% year-on-year during the summer, without providing further details.

Before combining its overseas ride-hailing service into the Baidu Map, its domestic ride-hailing services were already available there. Baidu Map now also connects with Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ride-hailing platform and other smaller ride-hailers to offer its users a wide varity of choices.

Baidu Map is a mapping service application developed by Baidu, the country’s biggest search engine company. The platform claims to handle 80 billion location-based service queries per day, with over 300 million monthly active users.
