Beyond Meat, an American plant-based meat substitutes brand, recently opened a new factory near Shanghai—its first manufacturing facility outside of the United States.

The initiative underscores Beyond Meat’s ambitions in China. Growing at an average rate of 15% annually in the past five years, the market size of plant-based meat alternatives in the country has reached RMB 7 billion in 2019, according to the Good Food Institute.
